The Golden Rectangle is a 12 x 20-foot abstract mural created in partnership with CINE, E. Espelie, and NEST Studio for the Arts. The work celebrates the “golden” aspect ratios that have shaped cinema’s history and continue to define its standards today. Composed within a large 1.66:1 (European widescreen) frame, the mural is organized in horizontal rows, each representing a distinct cinematic aspect ratio:
• 2.75:1 (VistaVision)
• 1.85:1 (Widescreen theatrical)
• 19:9 (Certain mobile phones)
• 2.39:1 (Anamorphic)
• 16:9 (Digital HD)
• 1.66:1 (European widescreen)
• 1.33:1 or 4:3 (Standard)
By layering these formats, the piece highlights the evolving ways moving images have been framed, consumed, and remembered.
