ME-TEE-OR
This wearable piece, which visualizes meteor strikes in real-time, was created with support from Colorado Scholars of Astrophysics and Art, Zachory Berta-Thompson, and ASP. This custom-made layered shirt houses a microcontroller that wirelessly connects to Live Meteors, a database that detects meteor strikes via radio wave reflections. Each time a meteor is detected, the microcontroller tells the Neopixels (a type of LED) that are scattered across the shirt to light up. The longer the lights continue to flash across the shirt, the larger the meteor strike. This shirt is fully functional, washable, and features a rechargeable battery. As long as your phone is nearby, you can visualize meteors anywhere. You can find more information on the science behind detecting meteors here.
“Me-tee-or” was most recently on display from November 2023 through January 2024 at the Aeronaut Cannery in Everett, Massachusettes. | Completed June 2021
